Summer has come and it seems Gone. We went straight past Autumn and into Winter. Lets get ready for Christmas because it must be only weeks away! The weeks have gone that fast that the Radiator man who was going to come and give us a heads up was nowhere to be found on the day of our General Meeting. It turns out he had quit, the boss was away and didn’t realise so of course, no one showed. We will try again soon. I think some one is coming to the next General meeting but I am frightened to say who just in case they don’t turn up either.
Get your table organised and book your tickets now. Contact Gloria or Caren. It would be appreciated if the members could donate items for raffle prizes and challenge games. The more things at the quiz night, the more funds we can raise. It is intended that the money raised will go towards FOCC assets like the new trailer (almost finished, just need to work out where to put the kitchen sink). Maybe a wiz bang Christmas dinner event. Mr Gullible may even turn up for that! But, lets not get ahead of ourselves, we need to fill the tables first so start a family group or a work group and book your table.
A little more work to do on the run yet but it will certainly be a cruise and is likely to include sections of navigation for those who wish to indulge. Plenty of photo opportunities for the photo buffs with old homesteads of stone and even Pug and Pine, Windmills and panoramic views. Several stops will be allowed for along the way for personal comfort and feeding of the munchies. This may include a narrative of historical facts about things and places along the way to Swan Reach and a little beyond to including visiting to the ruins of the Presidents Family home of the early settlers in the district. The intention would to have a top lunch at the Swan Reach Hotel, a popular place for car clubs. But as an alternative there is a wonderful park by the River, which is dedicated to a past member of the family.
Mr Gullible’s motor turns out to be a bit of an obscure Ford engine, still in the Physical form of the FE and Y block but called an MEL (Mercury. Edsel, Lincoln). It is a true big block and identifiable by the bore centres and bore diameters. Also one of the heaviest cast engines made in this group with some 430 Cubic inch it shares much of its structure with a series sized as 383, 410, and 462. It is still a popular engine in America as a drag engine as it is almost indestructible. But can it be renewed? Still waiting on advice if parts are available to rebuild this engine or scrap it. Is Mr Gullible going to be disappointed and in need of another engine, gearbox and diff set up? Mr Gullible’s project car has a name. The offers of names at the last meeting were well intended I think, and so many were right. A combination of these ideas has been accepted, a little long but is a good page filler. “Mr Gullible’s never ending mission of trouble”. Let’s see if it lives up to its name. Mr Gullible has spoken to the panel beater in depth and has made him aware that his progress will be reported in this column in Cam-torque. I don’t think he understands? He thinks it will be some kind of free advertising. Little does he know how it works when Mr Gullible is involved? “Barges at Gawler and the man with the shot gun” has taken a typical Mr Gullible curve. With the new international spy system called Google Earth, you can snoop into other people’s back yards. Yes, Mr Gullible has used this new technology to take a peek into this yard at Gawler, and guess what. Yep, your right, no cars in that back yard. Mr gullible has been knocking on the door of a complete innocent who quite rightly did not open the door to this mad man trying to climb over his fence. Oh why why why does it always happen. The Burra run, as in the write up of the Burra run above, it was stated that some locals came over to have a look. Mr Gullible also met a chap who said he had an old windscreen for a barge at home so away he went. “Mr Gullible’s never ending mission of trouble” needs a new windscreen so how lucky can he get? Unlike some who came home with wheel trims for Fords, Mr Gullible came home with a piece of glass in his car that is likely to fit an FB Holden. The dam thing won’t fit in the bin. Another chap said that there was a Barge on its roof in a creek on the Broken Hill road next to an old railway crossing. Next time some one happens to be driving that way and fins it take a few pictures to prove it is for real and a map reference. Mr. Gullible is not that gullible this time! A new find has come to the fore. Bryan Redden has provided the name and number of a chap at Lenswood who has some parts. Really he has, although I have not seen them myself, he says he has parts and in fact he has two goers and 5 others he used for spares and is willing to part with them. Could the search be over? Is this Mr. Gullible’s Paradise on wheels? Just like Mr. Gullible you will need to wait! Mother in law was quiet this month. Only rang once to ask if all the family could come to her 80th birthday next year. Well about a year exactly in fact. Did Mr. Gullible miss something? I had to say that I was going to be very busy putting the finishing touches to “Mr Gullible’s never ending mission of trouble” and Mrs Gullible will probably be weeding the garden at the furthest part of the yard away from the garage. The Mother in law didn’t understand. But I am sure the FOCC will be having a cruise that weekend and the Mother in law gets car sick so she can’t go.
