From the Prez, June 2008.

A good turn out for the general meeting on the 12th so many members must have been interested in Batteries. Yes batteries. An informative discussion was presented on batteries and I certainly learnt things. But after that meeting most of the members must have got very involved and busy as it seems they don’t have time to come to club events. The numbers that showed at the Quiz night was embarrassing to say the least and the turn out for the 26th meeting was the smallest I have ever seen. If it wasn’t for the two new members who joined that night we would not have had enough members to bother turning on the lights.

Quiz Night

May be I have already said enough but to those who were there I hope you had fun and thank you. I would also like to thank those who spent much of their time organising the night, Gloria Howe and ably assisted by Paul Howe. Also the scorers Vince Clark and volunteer David Clark. And not forgetting the Quiz Master Jesse Mazzilli.

The Presidents Run “The trip home”

A pleasant cruise is organised, and the navigation sections are limited to town areas for safety reasons, except for a few simple bonus point questions. The run will start at the FOCC Club rooms at 9:00 am. One stop on the way for personal comfort and tummy refills. Lunch has been booked at the Swan Reach Hotel for those wishing to partake after a Ferry crossing which may be a novelty for some. It may be strange but my cat used to ride on the ferry to go do what cats do on the other side of the river. More about this if you come on the day.

After lunch there is a Local Museum and History centre to visit plus a riverside park to just sit at and let the kids get wet. The museum is in the original school building that I did my Grade one in. I will not tell you how many years it took me to pass Grade one because I could not count well then. As I said last month, there are plenty of photo opportunities for the photo buffs with old homesteads of stone and even Pug and Pine, Windmills and panoramic views. The trip is about 110 Kilometres one way with a variety of directions to head home.

On a lighter note:

Mr Gullible’s 430 MEL motor has turned up some interest from some members. Even a CD with part numbers and dismantled part illustrations has turned up. One member has found someone who used to rebuild these motors and is tracking him down.

So far it seems that all the parts to rebuild the motor are available from the U.S.A. and the exchange rate at this time is pretty good. Pricing now starts to see if this rebuild motor is viable or will Mr Gullible need to be on the look out for a replacement FE 332 or 352 engine and Fordomatic gearbox. With the trouble Mr. Gullible has been having so far finding all those little pieces this could be a disaster but wait, there’s more. Note a little further down!

“Mr Gullible’s never ending mission of trouble”. The weather has been pretty good so Mr. Gullible has not been able to do any work on the project. Under instructions from Mrs. Gullible work on the house comes first. Not willing to create conflict, Mr. Gullible opted to buckle under. But the rain came in and an opportunity came so off to the shed for Mr. Gullible.

How hard can it be to pull a car apart, they are only held together with nuts and bolts aren’t they? The front end is first and off to a flying start for the first bolt. Then it happened. You know those blind nuts held in with slide in spring plates, the ones you use because you can’t get to the other side with a spanner. Well when they rust the nuts come loose from the plate and just spin around. Not to be beaten Mr. Gullible worked out a way to get a spanner in there and away he went.

The grill is off, the front bumper and brackets off, the stone guard off, bonnet off, radiator mounting off, the left fender outer off almost. Two bolts were not cooperating and the nuts were absolutely impossible to get to. Not to be cheated, out came drill and problem solved. Now the right fender, almost there if only Mr. Gullible could get the door open. With what he has, the rusty parts are off to ‘Access Blasting’ in Winfield. Will there be metal under this or just a big hole? You will need to wait just like Mr Gullible.

Mr. Gullible search for parts is possibly over. There is a chap near Lobethal who has a few pieces. The man that Brian Redden put Mr. Gullible on to is real and the cars are real. In his paddock are four cars, two 4 door sedans and two wagons, (one a ranch wagon and one a hearse). ( ) There are also two 4 door sedans and a Ranch Wagon in his shed that are operational. Best of all, He is willing to sell the parts. This could be a few weekends with a spanner spent in a paddock, Oh Boy Mr. Gullible, will the doors open? Will the spiders let you get your arm into the inside recess of the cars? Photos soon.

Mother in law problem fixed, turn the phone off.
