For those who were not at our presentation on radiators you may have missed that vital bit of information that could save your radiator. In short, the latest radiators being aluminium and not copper due to the cost of copper are perhaps the worst radiators ever to be fitted to a car. It is critical to use anti corrosion anti freeze in these radiators or they will be history in a few months. Solution is to get your self an older car with a full cast iron engine and hay presto, no problems. This may seem a bit radical but it is interesting that as cooling designs become more sophisticated they also become more fickle. It leaves me to ponder if today’s cars will still be thumping the highways in 50 years. Consider this, your “Motor Engineering Technician (Mechanic will be a lost term) will need to have the relevant software and cable connection along with a computer system compatible to this software to analysis and correct errors to the control system. The software may be very corrupt by then. The cable connections will a thing of the past as I am sure it will be proximity activation (like Bluetooth) and only diehards like Mr Gullible will still own a computer as we know it today.
The day was once again spot on. Although the forecast was a little threatening, the sun came out and was lovely day. The turnout was better than I expected and the navigation run was full of controversy as always. I am sure people see us driving around, doing U turns, and looking at obscure things and thinking we are one paver short of a path. They may well be right but if you can’t be a fool sometimes life can be a bit mundane. The day ended with a BBQ at the FOCC Club Rooms and was not bad. It is a bit of a problem when the man with the meat is the last navigator to get to the venue but it didn’t take long to get the goods burning and onto the plates. Thanks got the Northgate Community Centre for providing the BBQ, onions, plates and cutlery and Vince and Shane for setting up the run.
Yes, there is to be s st r ipping demonst rat ion at the next meet ing. I am told that it is for the interest of both men and w omen. Don’t miss this one as w e need to suppor t these demonst rat ions to make them feel w elcome. The heaters w ill be on and w e w ill get see the before and after st r ipping results. The st r ippers have told me that they w ill bear dow n to the raw product , no cover ing left at all. We w ill be able to see this up close and even touch it . Mr Gullible will be flying in as a special appearance to see this stripping in action.
“Mr Gullible’s never ending mission of trouble”. Progress still continues with the Galaxie despite the fact that steering linkage was causing a problem. The 13 pound sledge failed to reap success so a borrowed hydraulic puller was used and presto. The steering is out and off comes the body from the chassis. Careful now that body is not like today’s cars. It still weighs a bit. “Look Mr Gullible it will stop when it hits the concrete”. No damage done but a little pride bruising. The progress has slowed a bit as other priorities have come to bear and time needs to be spent elsewhere so Mrs Gullible says (Hint) do as you are told or beware the consequences. The main body is almost ready to be sent to Romano but first it looks as if the interior may be done separately. Depending on the strippers (as mentioned above) the inside may be soda blasted then painted with a product touted to be the best for rust prevention and metal preservation, POR 15. This will be an interesting exercise as it is recommended to actually brush it on not spray. The result is meant to be a super gloss finish with no brush marks and a permanent seal against rust. Then comes the chassis work followed by the slow rebuild. Ready for Christmas just don’t know what year. If you have small pieces of metal that have rust, simply buy some Horse Molasses from your local ‘Stock product depot’ and dip the parts in for a week or so. Well it actually works. Mr Gullible had the mixture too diluted to start with but it has been in the dip for three weeks now and results are there. The metal bits are coming up clean but it still needs more time in the dip. Keep you posted. I wander if you can feed the stuff to the horses are you have used it.
All is quiet on the Mother in Law front. The sister in law in Hobart has been looking after the Mother in laws’ finances lately and has accidentally omitted to pay the phone bill. “YIPPEE”. No one ever told me that people get older they tend to get a little off the rails. My mother is starting to go the way of the Mother in law. Boy, are there stories for next month!!!!!!
