Rally Accident Report
A Porsche 91 had a heavy accident during a recent Rally. The situation for the occupants was improved because there were Doctors in a vehicle preparing to run in the event and they were rushed into the stage to stabilize the occupants.
Jason Rowley suffered severe damage to both legs and is now progressing well at the
Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre. His driver was more seriously injured and was in a coma for
some time. He now opens his eyes and can squeeze his wife’s hand when spoken to.
I have reported before that Australia now has two groups that “authorize” motor sport
events. AASA has allowed the historic touring cars (Group N) to run with group sponsorship on
their vehicles, i.e. they all run with series sponsorship advertising, normally on the windscreen.
CAMS did allow similar sponsorship at one or more of the Clipsal events. CAMS now will allow
the sponsorship on the vehicles at all CAMS events.
In the past CAMS has only allowed “CAMS approved” Doctors to be used at motor sport
events. The approved bit has been removed and any registered Doctor can be used at a CAMS
event. The normal nuts and bolts stuff was also discussed and so the meeting took a bit longer
than this brief report suggests.
