Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix will go ahead as planned.

Notes on the CAMS State Council meeting of 16 November 2010

CAMS Clubs have to Affiliate before 18 January 2011. The FOCC has submitted its forms and paid up.

The Support Paddocks for the Clipsal 500 have had to be moved due to works in progress and re-assignment of uses in the old areas.

It is expected that the helicopter landing area will be used as a support paddock area.

It will be interesting to see how they get the race cars on and off the track when one considers how many people move around in the area between the track and the helipad.

I have learnt how to access the CAMS web site and checked it out.

The local CAMS office will close on 23 December for the Christmas break and open again on 10 January.

The Australian Auto Sport Alliance (AASA) has the ability to license motor sport competitors and officials and motor race events are run under the AASA banner. AASA is operating in an area where CAMS used to be the only motor sport authority. AASA is taking money away from CAMS and that is why CAMS is pushing for un-aligned car clubs and in particular social motoring clubs to join CAMS.

CAMS is in the process of changing it s constitution to stop High Level CAMS Officials from having a joint membership in the AASA as they wish to stop the knowledge gained as a CAMS Official being used by AASA. There is no one in the FOCC that the restriction applies to.

The top motor racing award in Australia is the CAMS Gold Star. It is given to driver operating in open wheeler classes. The participation rate in what is seen as the top open wheeler class in Australia is now very low and not overly competitive and thought is being given to suspending the award of a yearly Gold Star. There was a dispute between the Melbourne Grand Prix organizers and CAMS over the cost of the provision of services and officials to make the Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix work.

The situation has been resolved and the Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix will go ahead as planned.

There are lots of CAMS people on FIA panels that need to go overseas to work on panel decisions. As the Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix is a direct FIA event the Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix has to pay for the CAMS people to go overseas to the meetings. The Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix is not happy with the amount of money expended in that area. CAMS has no laid down procedures to discipline officials who do not do the right thing. There is some work being done on a set of procedures to be followed.
